Elaine Notley (Stoller), 87, passed away peacefully from complications of kidney disease. She was born in Milltown, S.D. She attended Shafter High School, where she met her husband of 67 years – John Notley Jr. They lived in San Luis Obispo while John attended Cal Poly, then moved to Shafter before settling in Terra Bella for 54 years. On Saturday, the City of Wasco Code Compliance Department hosted a spring community cleanup where almost 15 tons of bulky waste was disposed of at no cost to the residents of Wasco. The event was in collaboration with the Wasco Public Works Department, American Refuse, Alianza and many local volunteers. Wasco High School Alumni Francisco Javier Baltazar passed away in the early morning of April 16. He was born Dec. 5, 1989, and from a young age was in love with science. His mother, Priscilla Baltazar, said, "He loved learning, he always pushed himself to be the best." Francisco was co-valedictorian of the 2008 graduating class. Daniel Lopez, 31, was stabbed by another person on April 14. He died two days later. At 8:15 pm, Kern County Sheriff’s Office Wasco Substation deputies were dispatched to a stabbing investigation that allegedly occurred at Poso Avenue and D Street. Three Shafter runners made the trek to Beantown to compete in the Boston Marathon.
