Campaign champions pet adoption

Wasco Animal Control will host its "Don't Shop, Adopt" Free Adoption Friday event on April 19. It will be an opportunity to take home a furry friend that will make a special addition to your family.

Animal Control Officer Rigoberto Figueroa said the criteria for potential adopters is simple. "As of now, we only require identification, such as a driver's license."

He added that it will be first-come-first-serve. "Once the decision to adopt is made, we will make a copy of the adopter's ID and have them fill out the adoption agreement form (in Spanish if needed), and that will be all. We are excited to show how easy it will be!"

Dogs will be available for adoption; there are hopes to include cats in the future.

Figueroa said there are benefits to adopting. "Since all adoption fees are waived, residents can use the money they save towards food, shelter or vet visits for their new pet. Also, the dogs will be ready to take home because they are already neutered/spayed, vaccinated and microchipped."

He urged residents to " 'Don't Shop, Adopt!' All these pets are amazing and deserve a loving home. As most have seen, there has been an increase in the strays not only in Wasco but all over the nation. Our goal is to help the community save money and provide them with a new family member. It's a win-win for everyone."

His advice to someone considering attending but is still deciding whether to adopt a pet. "Come on out and talk to us! We are excited to answer your questions and provide you with all the necessary information to make the right decision on adopting."

The community event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grocery Outlet at 1650 Hwy. 46. For more information, call 661-758-7240.
