Colours all over town this weekend

Colours – A Festival of the Arts – is making its return to Shafter this weekend, Thursday-Sunday, Feb. 22-55, full of fun events and activities for the entire family.

After COVID and four years, it is time to celebrate the arts in Shafter once again. Colours will start with its traditional Shafter Community Chest Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, followed by a weekend of talent and art.

Featured this year will be an Art Gallery and a Meet the Artist event with wine tasting, with local wines from Tehachapi and Paso Robles that have ties to Shafter. New this year will be the Cornhole Tournament, for social and advanced levels. There also will be the 2-mile Fun Run (or walk with or without a stroller).

You also can visit Shafter's three museums in town The Green Hotel will be open for people to tour, as well as the Shafter Depot Museum and the Minter Field Air Museum. The Minter Field Air Museum has just undergone a facelift, with a paint job and the addition of an extra room for exhibits.

You also can try your hand with a paint brush at the Art Workshops, one for adults and another for kids. There also will be an opportunity to come and meet local author Jennifer Gardiner, who wrote the children's book "A Trip Around the Pond".

Two coffeehouse events are planned at the Tin Cup. On Friday night, there is coffeehouse music and strings, and on Saturday night the music will feature local musicians.

The Community Worship event on Sunday will offer worship music.
