Wasco SkillsUSA Represented at Finals

Wasco high school's SkillsUSA team heads to state finals. Students who qualified at regionals back in March will compete in different categories such as culinary, photography, baking and criminal justice just to name a few.

The Wasco Team left April 13 to compete at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario. A total of 19 students participated in the competition. Competitor Jennifer Mendoza Ayon placed third in restaurant service.

Photography competitor Daniel Rodriguez said his favorite part of this program is "Being able to learn about a skill that I can apply in the world.".

SkillsUSA is a program with career and technical opportunities for students. Serving more than 395,000 high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.

Students Learn so much from these programs, many skills and opportunities are created from the experience. "If I could restart my highschool experience again, I would 100% do SkillsUSA", Rodrigues said.

Rodriguez Encourages others to join because, "They can gain a lot of work experience, and create many connections with different people from different places.".

You can be part of this organization on the Wasco High School campus, by joining any CTE class such as multimedia, culinary arts, public safety and allied health.
