The students made him a special runner's number for his race.

Montelongo is no stranger to the race, qualifying three other times for the race throughout his running career. "This is a big race and was always one of my dreams when I started running," said Montelongo.

The students of Golden Oak made special poster for the event, with encouraging and motivational messages on them. Montelongo will be competing in the Elite Men's Division this year.

To send Montelongo off in style, after the Pledge of Allegiance last Thursday, classroom doors opened and 750 staff members and students were heard shouting, "Dream Big and Work Hard... Run Fast Mr. Montelongo!"

Some of the students commented that they are going to watch the race and see if they can spot their teacher.
