  • Woman's Club takes PRIDE in Cans D'Arte

    The Shafter Woman's Club is helping breathe life back in to the Colours program. They will be sponsoring a food drive, ``Cans D'Arte Exhibit 2024,'' at the Depot Museum the last two weekends in February and through the month of March. This project focuses on community assistance to those who are in need of food to support themselves and their families. All proceeds will go to the Shafter High School PRIDE Pantry. Anyone can enter the Cans D'Arte. Entries will be able to enter and set up their displays Saturdays in February....

  • SHS 55th reunion a success; Gary Kern honored

    Generally speaking, high school reunions are not written about after the event is over. That is not the case with the Shafter High's Class of 1968 latest get together. Their 55th reunion was held on Sept. 30 at Mettler's Racing Barn. Of the original 209 graduates, 48 attended with additional spouses and friends; total attendance was 78.     Our reunion weekend is drawing near. But, there are still a few things that need to be done before events can begin.     Shafter resident and veteran Barry Bongberg has written a book of memories from his time spent in Vietnam. He will be signIng his book, "Dear Mom and Dad, Letters Home from Vietnam 1967-1969," at the Shafter Depot Museum, 150 Central Valley Hwy., on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The book follows Bongberg's experiences in Vietnam through his 268 letters written home during his 23 months of duty there.
