Color Blast Fun Run kicks off Rose Festival

The Wasco Recreation and Parks District will host the Run for the Roses Color Blast Fun Run on Saturday, Sept.7, starting at 7:30 a.m. Participants can choose between a 5K run or a 3K walk, with the starting line at Barker Park Little League Shelter #5. The entry fee is $40, cash only at 7 a.m. Proceeds from the event will support the community's fireworks event planned for 2025.

"The Color Blast Fun Run' is a lively, noncompetitive running event where participants are showered with vibrant, colored powder at various points along the race route," said

WRPD District Manager Chris Serna. "The goal is not about speed or winning but about having fun, celebrating health and enjoying the festive atmosphere. Typically, participants start in white T-shirts, and by the end of the run, they are covered in a rainbow of colors."

This year's event continues to grow from previous ones. "WRPD always strives to have a bigger and better event than the year prior. We are now in our third year with this event and are thrilled to be able to provide this fun community event to kick off the Rose Festival festivities for many more years to come!"

Serna believes the run is a special addition to the Rose Festival. "WRPD provides this community event to align with the festival to bring people together, celebrate our local culture, and foster a sense of unity and pride within our community. By offering engaging activities and shared experiences, we aim to create an inclusive environment where residents of all ages can connect, enjoy themselves and contribute to the vibrant spirit of the festival. This event not only enhances the festival's appeal but also strengthens the bonds that make our community unique."

Participants can expect a fun-filled day with lots of music, dancing and opportunities to meet the Wasco Rose Queen. "And possibly the mayor before the run," Serna said, "making it a joyful and community-centered experience suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The emphasis is on participation, fun, and making memories, rather than competition."

She described the event as a vibrant experience. "It's the excitement of getting splashed with colorful powder at various points along the course, a festive vibe, joyful atmosphere, the colorful mess and the chance to make memories that will be cherished for a lifetime."
