The Shafter Ford Theater was host to a jungle full of fun last week, as the Shafter Community Vacation Bible School took place on the site, bringing together kids from churches from all over town to have a big event.
With attendance dwindling in separate programs in Shafter, and with the different churches sometimes competing at the same time for the same kids, it was decided by a few of the churches to pool resources and create one big Vacation Bible School. This idea took off and the event has been well attended for the past three years.
This year, the theme of the VBS was The Great Jungle Journey. Jennifer Garza, one of the organizers, said that it was an epic voyage from Genesis to Revelations. "It is great to see the kids having such a good time and also learning a lot at the same time."
The event was filled with music, choreography and daily Bible verses that the kids would memorize.
There was also a Bible story time in which the kids were taken on a new adventure each day.
The event also had an arts and crafts time, with the kids making several keepsakes that they were able to take home to their parents. There was a meal before the festivities started each day and a snack time.
There was an eventful game activity time which had the kids getting their exercise for the day and more.
It was as fun way for the kids to spend a week out of school. "It gave them plenty to do, kept them safe and allowed them to learn a lot," Garza said .
