Freddie O'Neal Dunnahoe, 86, of Shafter, passed away on May 28, 2024. Born on June 11, 1937, in McGehee, Arkansas, Freddie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Freddie enlisted in the Army in 1957. He served and was Reserve until 1963. After serving in the Army, Freddie moved to California with his family and settled in Kern County. He worked for various farmers before joining Handel and Wilson Farms in 1973. Freddie worked for Stanley Wilson until his retirement in 2008.
Family was everything to Freddie, and he cherished spending time with his loved ones. He enjoyed playing music on his guitar, singing for family, friends and at church. Freddie loved being a prankster, especially when it came to scaring his wife, Shirley. Gardening and yard work brought him joy, especially when his great-grandchildren joined in. Freddie's fun-loving nature and caring personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Shirley; brother Albert (Linda) Dunnahoe; sisters Faye Bankston and Joyce Barnes; daughters Tammy (Eddie) Welch (Jr.), Kathy (James) Anders and Jackie Lindsey; sons Rick (Beth) Rumbo, Tom Rumbo and Mark Rumbo; along with many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Also and Clara Dunnahoe; brother Ted Ray; sisters Peggy, Reatha, Dale and Oveal; grandson Cody Welch; and great-granddaughter Jayden Roberts.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Basham and Lara Funeral Home in Shafter. Funeral services will commence at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a service at the Shafter Cemetery. Basham and Lara Funeral Home in Shafter is assisting the family with the arrangements.
