Return of Colours Festival slated for February

Details continue to be ironed out for the upcoming Colours Festival, slated for Feb. 24-26. The event will mainly be held at the Tin Cup and Ford Theater, with a couple of exceptions. The festival is returning after a long hiatus, with the event being focused this year on local talent.

The opening event will be the Spaghetti Dinner held by the Community Chest on Friday, Feb. 24.

Other events slated for Friday are the opening of the Art Gallery, which will feature several local artists in a variety of mediums. Among those slated to show for the event are Deanna Nelson, Charlotte White and several other local artists.

The Colours Fun Run will be held near Shafter High School, beginning at the Shafter Recreation office. The runners will run or walk the course and be blasted with different colors along the way.

There will also be a corn hole tournament, which will be held at the Church of Christ parking lot.

There will be plenty of music, with the return of the Coffee House Music event showcasing local singers and musicians in the intimate Tin Cup. There will also be a car show at the Tin Cup parking lot, with everything from classic cars to souped up hot rods.

The Childrens Art Workshop will be held on Saturday, with children invited to learn how to create their own work of art that they can display and take home. Garry Nelson will be running the Wine Tasting event, with a variety of local vintages represented. There will also be a Meet the Artist event, which will coincide with the wine tasting.

More details and events will be announced as they are firmed up.

The planning committee includes Radon and Judy Fortenberry, Colleen Diltz, Cathy Prout, Randy Toews, Pastor Pat Coyle, Gary Nelson and Phillip Jimenez.
