Kiwanians recognize some Terrific Kids

The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their monthly Terrific Kids luncheon on Sept. 13, recognizing some local students who have demonstrated a character trait that is featured during that month. This month, the trait was Thoughtful. The traits included in this program are T (Thoughtful), E (Enthusiastic), R (Respectful), R (Responsible), I (Inclusive), F (Friendly), I (Inquisitive), and C (Capable).

The Terrific Kids program has been honoring students for decades, giving them positive

reinforcement for their exhibition of positive character traits at their respective schools.

Teachers from local schools nominate students who exhibit that trait. Each student receives a certificate, a pencil, a bumper sticker and a t-shirt, in addition to the lunch.

This year, the Shafter Kiwanis widened the scope of the program, recognizing students from not only Richland School District, but also from Maple School and GROW Academy.

This month, Richland Junior High School's Dean Mylum Nicholson presented awards to Valerie Perez and Angel Vargas. For GROW Academy, Principal Lacie Harris presented awards to Dalililah Feliciano and Alondra Montalvo. Bryan Easter, superintendent of Maple School, recognized Victoria Ramirez, Olivia Gonzalez, Odette Rice and Lily Willis. Representing Sequoia Elementary School, Principal Janean Morris presented awards to Aubrey Gutierrez, Ashlyn Lindsay. Redwood Elementary's Assistant Principal Antonio Juarez gave awards to Marina Chavez and Violet Aguilar. Jose Montelongo, assistant principal of Golden Oak Elementary, presented awards to Valeria Sainz and Jesse Panduro.

The Shafter Kiwanis Club aims to enrich the lives of the community, especially its youth and the people who serve them.
