Serving the community since 1970

Reunion hopes to rekindle friendships

Wasco Union High School's class of 1973 will celebrate their 50th-year reunion on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 4 to 10 p.m. It will be an opportunity to dance, enjoy good food, partake in the music and see classmates from years before.

Marta Rodriguez-Poe, Beverly Snow-Rogers, Isabel Perez-Couch, Jeff Grant and Nori Frantz Rossi make up the planning committee and are busy preparing for the event, so it will be a special time for the alums to enjoy.

"We want to bring everyone together. The last one we had was our 40th reunion. People are coming from Northern and Southern California and from out of state, including Idaho and Texas," Rodriguez-Poe said.

The graduates share a special bond, with many of them having attended school with each other since kindergarten.

"Some of them we only see at class reunions. It's fun to catch up," Perez-Couch said.

"To see what they've been doing the last fifty years," Rodriguez-Poe added. "Classmates and their significant others, spouses of the deceased and some of our old teachers are invited."

There will be a display to memorialize those classmates that have passed and a picture collage of past reunions. The class yearbook also will be showcased so guests can have a look at it.

DJ Boom Dog will be playing classic hits from the era for dancing, including music from Chicago, Earth, Wind and Fire, the Beatles and KC and the Sunshine Band.

Jesse's Tacos will cater the event, and guests will take home a souvenir to commemorate the occasion.

"It's going to be fun to see everybody. That is what I'm most looking forward to," Rodriguez-Poe said. "We hope everyone can get together and remember all the good years we had."

The event will occur at John Bean's Place, 1994 Beanway in Wasco. Tickets are $40 per person and can be paid by Zelle. It will be BYOB.

Contact [email protected] for tickets and more information. The deadline to RSVP and pay is Sept. 20.
