Woman's Club extends warm invitation to new members

The Wasco Woman's Club held its annual meet and greet event Tuesday morning to recruit new members.

Sukie Martinez is the second vice president in charge of membership.

"We invited fellow women in the community to come and get to know who we are, what we do and what we stand for," she said.

The Wasco Woman's Club is a service organization that will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year.

The club supports many charitable efforts, including providing scholarships, sponsoring a Miss Wasco Rose Queen, hosting a high school art show and candidate forum, and putting on a Christmas party and prom for special education youth, to name a few.

Martinez has been a member for two years.

"The best part of the meet and greet was giving the guests a taste of our fellowship and insight into the many service projects we carry out."

Ruth Ramos, owner of K&R Banquet Halls and State Farm Insurance in Wasco, and a potential new member, said of the event, "I loved it. It seems like they all know each other very well."

"All have the same commitment to helping others and the community. I'm definitely going to join. I want to be a part of what they do."

"I look forward to being a member of such a wonderful organization," she said.

Another prospect that attended was Amor Regis, owner of the recently opened Grocery Outlet.

"I felt very welcomed, and I know that I belong here because I see we have the same mission to be an advocate for women and children."

"As someone new to the Wasco community, I think it's important to be involved and show my support, and joining the Wasco Woman's Club will help me realize this goal."

Martinez said, "We invite you to be a part of a unique organization that will impact your life and the lives of others."
