Erlinda Romo DeLeon

Feb. 4, 1942 – Feb. 25, 2023

Erlinda Romo DeLeon, 81, passed away unexpectedly in Bakersfield.

She was born in Wasco to Gonzalo and Margarita Romo on Feb. 4, 1942. She attended St. John's The Evangelist Catholic School through 8th grade and soon went on to graduate from Wasco Union High School in 1960. After high school, Erlinda enrolled at Frederico College and graduated with her degree in cosmetology. She soon moved to Los Angeles. After settling in L.A. and working as a beautician, she met Robert at a local dance and eventually married in Wasco on June 19, 1965. They celebrated 56 years of marriage in June 2021 before Robert's passing.

Erlinda was a devoted and loving woman who was also a great wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, daughter, friend and caregiver to many children.

Erlinda moved to Southgate and worked at several salons. Erlinda and Robert bought a home in Rowland Heights. They welcomed their first son, Roberto, on June 27, 1968. Their second son, Mario, was born on Feb. 17, 1972. Erlinda became a stay-at-home mom, then years later, she went back to work full time at Spectrol Electronics.

She enjoyed camping and nature. At home, she loved tending to her garden and the many plants she grew. She loved dancing with Robert throughout her life at many dance halls. She was very creative, and loved to sew and craft.

Erlinda is survived by her sons, Rob (Tricia) and Mario (Dena); grandchildren Roberto, Liliana, Mikayla, and step-granddaughter Ariana; brother Chalo; and sisters Rose, Teresa, Rachel and Connie.

Erlinda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dominquez DeLeon; father, Gonzalo Romo; mother, Margarita Romo; brothers Isaac and Ismael; and sister Vera.

Erlinda will be truly missed by her family but she will be remembered for the fiercely independent and caring person she was.

Erlinda will be laid to rest in Wasco this coming Friday, May 19, 9:30 a.m. at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by a procession to Wasco Cemetery.
