Pastor's Corner: Evidence for faith

I probably don't need to tell you that Easter was celebrated this year on April 9. Sanctuaries were decorated, choirs practiced, meals were planned and served for family gatherings, and some of you may have even gone shopping for a new outfit just for that special day! Most importantly, of course, was the opportunity to gather with other believers and celebrate the living hope we have in Jesus!

Periodically, I'm asked the question, "How do we know it's true?" In the world of Biblical studies, that would fall into the category of apologetics, or defending the faith. Here are several examples of evidence that are commonly used in answering that question.

--The empty tomb (Matthew 28:5-7).

--The report of the guards (Matthew 28:11-15).

--The changed lives of the disciples (Matthew 26:56; Acts 2:32).

--The eyewitnesses of the risen Lord (I Corinthians 15:3-8).

There will always be those who don't believe in the resurrection of Jesus, and unfortunately, no amount of "evidence" will convince them. But let me assure you, if you are a follower of Jesus, the resurrection is true and our Living Savior conquered death! May your celebration of Easter continue to be a wonderful time of worship, and may you be filled with the living hope that is found in Jesus throughout the year!
