Election results yet to be official

With local election results still incomplete, the latest tallies released Tuesday showed no changes in the leaders.

According to the Kern County Elections Department, the numbers will be made official on Dec. 9. The department has 30 days from the Nov. 8 vote to count all of the ballots. and with the extensive use of labor-intensive mail-in ballots, the count requires much more effort – and time.

For City Council, District 1, Mayor Gilberto Reyna ran unopposed and has received 185 votes in the latest count.

For City Council District 3, Valentin Medina received 134 votes, while his opponent, incumbent and Mayor Pro Tem John P. Pallares, came in with 119 votes.

In City Council District 4, candidate Eduardo Saldana received 188 votes, and for this same seat, Councilmember Michael Lynch had 86 votes compared with Myron E. William II, with 70 votes.

Maria O. Martinez ran for the position of Wasco city clerk unopposed. She received 1,436 votes.

For treasurer, Lamar Rodriguez also ran unopposed, receiving 1,425 vote.

There were three spots open for the Wasco Union Elementary School Board. The top three were Ernie Sanchez, who received 1053 votes, Cherylee Wegman with 867 votes and Richard K. Reding with 864 votes. Anna J. Poggi was not elected, and she came in with 801 votes.

The Wasco Union High School Board also had three positions open. Those elected were Juan Bernal, who received 1022 votes, Mario Juarez, with 957 votes and Carl Joe Hively, with 871 votes. James Adams came in at 591 votes, while Tony Perez received 577 votes. Both were not elected.
