Brian Araiza and Paulina Lopez were chosen from Redwood Elementary.

The Shafter Kiwanis Club honored a group of Richland School District students at their recent meeting held at the Shafter Veterans Hall. Each school in the district nominates a student or students that best exemplify the character trait that is the theme for that month. This month the theme was Thoughtfulness.

For Sequoia Elementary School, the students nominated were Eli Crane and Leyla Raya.

Terrific Kids is a student-recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. "Terrific" is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.

Students work with their classroom teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or school work. All students who achieve their goals after a specific time are recognized as Terrific Kids.

Recognition includes the presentation of a t-shirt, bumper sticker, certificate and pencils. This was the final Terrific Kids Luncheon of this school year.
