Students going back to school

Monday, Aug. 8, is the first day of school for the Wasco Union Elementary School District. It is also the start of something grand.

Throughout the district, almost 3,600 students will embark on the new year.

WUESD strives for excellence by developing lifelong learners, an appreciation for diversity and responsible citizenship.

District leaders and the faculty are proud of the district's growth year after year in mathematics and English language arts.

They try to help the community with highly qualified teachers, moving students toward being proficient in English.

The elementary district has counselors at every school, pathways to college at the middle schools, after-school sports and after-school activities until 5:30 p.m. for all students.

There are also many other new programs, including universal breakfast in the classroom and universal lunch at no charge.

Early enrollment is encouraged, and you can watch the new year unfold on the district's Facebook page @WUESD.
