Acclaimed author Gregory Trine visited Redwood Elementary.

The Richland School District and its students had a busy week, with a visit from an acclaimed author, as well as an opportunity for some of their students to take a trip to the Shafter Learning Center.

Author Greg Trine visited Redwood Elementary last week. He shared with students his inspiration for writing children's books. Trine shared tips for editing and revising with the students, who participated throughout a school assembly. Trine emphasized to students that being a good reader helps you become a better writer.

Trine is the author of the Melvin Beederman Superhero series of books, as well as the Adventures of Jo Schmo series of books, which won a Young Readers Award.

An informational and resource event was held at Redwood.

Redwood Elementary School was also the site of an informational fair for Redwood students and their families who would like support for learning and emotional well being. "Families were appreciative for the information and resources that were provided," said Superintendent Rosa Romero. "The event was with the help of Redwood Elementary School social worker and the Psychology Department, as well as the Shafter Learning Center."

Four of our Richland School District's kindergarten classes took a walking field trip to the Shafter Library and Learning Center. A teacher commented, "This is better than the Lori Brock Museum! [the youth museum in Bakersfield]" Students heard a story and enjoyed a cooking class. Parent chaperones, teachers and students were excited to know that this place was just down the street from their homes! "The trip was a great success, with the students and chaperones learning how much of a resource the Shafter Learning Center is," Romero said.
