Serving the community since 1970

Pop Up event will bring arts and crafts to Wasco

On Saturday, April 9, the Wasco Woman's Club will host its 1st Annual Craft Fair and Pop Up event. It will be perfect for those looking for spring gifts, Easter decorations and sweet treats.

"We invite the community to come out and support small businesses. They will find lots of extra special items to buy. With the spring weather being so nice, we expect a large turnout," club member and event organizer Anita Harris said.

The event will be in memory of Linda Dieter, a former Wasco Woman's Club member. Linda's mother was a past club president.

"She was an asset to the club and a very talented artist. It was a tragedy she passed before she could be president of the club. The pop up event was her idea, and I think her mother would have been quite proud," former club president Marlene Swan said.

The event, which is open to all ages, will help raise money for the club.

"This is a special event because it allows us to raise money to fund the many community projects we sponsor throughout the year. In particular, this helps us with the scholarships we provide to empower local youth," Harris said.

There will be Easter activities, art projects, games and face painting for the kids.

"We will have a variety of delicious food, including breakfast burritos and other lunch items for sale by the Wasco Woman's Club. Mike's Cupcakes and Good Grief Cookie Company will also attend," Harris said.

About 40 vendors are anticipated to participate, offering one-of-a-kind arts and crafts. Women's clothing and accessories will also be available for purchase and a variety of desserts and candy.

Vendors will each donate a gift to be raffled throughout the day.

"With this event, we are looking forward to connecting with and getting to know our fellow Wasconians. Our city has so much to offer residents. It makes us proud that we can contribute to the community with a day of charity, fun and socializing. It is our way of giving back," Harris said.

The club is still looking for vendors, and those interested can call Anita Harris at 661-342-1647 for a registration form. The fee is $30.

The event will take place at the Wasco Woman's Club House at 1601 7th St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
