Mert Wiedmann, a pioneer in the history of Shafter, city leader and longtime owner of Stringham's Shafter Drug Store, passed away Oct. 19. He was 97, and was living in the family home on Cross Street. More details on Wiedmann's life and his impact on the community will appear on TheShafterPress.com and in next week's print edition.
