The annual Fireworks Show will light up the sky in Shafter once again after being canceled last year due to the pandemic.
The show is scheduled for Saturday, July 3.
The Shafter Chamber of Commerce announced recently that the show would be held this year, thanks to the more lenient restrictions by the Public Health Department and Gov. Gavin Newsom's plans to open up the state.
The City Council approved a Special Event Permit for the event. Since the Shafter High School football stadium is being renovated, the show will take place at the Shafter Recreation Fields next to the stadium.
The event will be scaled down to accommodate the smaller space.
Instead of a full field of food vendors, games, and activities, the event will have one food vendor on site. There will also be a vendor selling lighted toys that they have had in the past, as well as a DJ for the show.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m., with the fireworks setting off at about 8:45 p.m.
The show is put on by Zambelli Fireworks, who have been doing the show for the past decade.
The Kern High School District Board needs to give its final approval for the event since it will be held on school property.
