Assembly member Rudy Salas has been named Legislator of the Year by the California Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association.

Salas was recognized with the award on April 22 by the association and over 8,000 dispatchers in the state.

"It is a great honor to be awarded Legislator of the Year by our brave emergency dispatchers whose tireless work keeps our families safe," Salas said.

Salas was presented this honor for outstanding service to the 9-1-1 dispatchers and telecommunicators as first responders.

California dispatchers answer approximately 27 million 9-1-1 calls per year and play a vital role in the state's emergency response chain, which extends far beyond dispatching calls for peace officers and firefighters, the association said.
