Help with funeral expenses related to covid-19 available

The Federal Emergency Management Agency offers an Individual Assistance Program for funeral expenses for covid-19-related deaths and officially began accepting applications on Monday, April 12.

“For death to be considered for funeral assistance, it must have occurred after January 2020, and will be much like that offered after a natural disaster,” the press release stated.

The statement also said that eligible applicants may apply by calling 844- 684-6833 or 800-462-7585 toll free Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All applicants must provide FEMA with a copy of the death certificate and proof of funeral expenses incurred and proof of funeral assistance received from any other source.

This assistance is available to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals and qualified aliens such as green card holders, asylees (person who is seeking asylum or seeing asylum), refugees and others.

Everyone must provide necessary documents with the required information. Applicants living in the United States, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia will be reimbursed for up to $9,000 for each funeral.

If you have any questions regarding this benefit, call the number listed above. For more information, visit FEMA’s funeral assistance webpage.
