Reserve season to begin in June

The Wasco Reserve will begin training in May to prepare for its season opener in June.

Owner of the Wasco Reserve Andrew Dunn said that the Reserve will be at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield on May 1 at 10 a.m. to begin training.

“The new manager will be Nick Ray,” Dunn said. “Previous manager Bill Moore isn’t able to leave Phoenix on doctor’s orders.”

Dunn also said that game tickets will be $5 per game.

There have been some issues with player housing, Dunn said.

“Our league runs host families in every city,” Dunn said. “We have never paid home housing for the home team.”

Dunn added that Cinderella Motel charged the players in spring training and the league in 2019.

“We spent over $31,000 at his hotel between league and players that stayed there, more than any city in California except for Monterey,” Dunn added. “He increased the price to $79.99 from $49.99.”

Cinderella Hotel Manager Mr. Patel said Wednesday that the hotel charged $49.99 a night for players and he was upset that someone would say players were charged a higher amount.

“It’s ridiculous that they would say we charged players $79.99 a night instead of $49.99 a night,” Patel said. “All we were trying to do is help the team.”

The Reserve schedule can be found online at PecosLeague.com.

The current teams in the High Desert League include Bakersfield, Oildale, Wasco and the High Desert. The North League includes San Rafael, Martinez, Monterey and Santa Cruz.
