Manuel "Angel" Cortez

May 18, 1972 -- Oct. 18, 2020

Angel Cortez was born May 18, 1972, in Coalinga to Gilberto and Estella Cortez. They moved to Lost Hills in 1973. He graduated from Wasco High in 1990. Angel married the love of his life Kelli Cortez Sept. 25, 2010. He worked for Wasco State Prison for 18 years. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Shafter. He coached youth football for 3 years in Lost Hills. He helped with the Shafter Quakes basketball team. He was able to be an extra in the TV show "Speechless."

He has two beloved sons, Augustine and his wife Joanna Cruz, and Angel Cortez, his youngest son. Angel is a godfather to Lucas, Devin and Aaliyah. Brother to Elida and her husband Margarito Avila, Jorge and his wife Andrea Rocha, and Gilberto and his wife Vanessa Cortez. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Angel passed away with his wife and son by his side Oct. 18, 2020, in Pasadena.

The family would like to thank Mercy Memorial Home Health for all of their services, especially Joann Gaede and Hilda Reyes. Also thank you to the staff at Memorial Hospital and Dr. Nick Hansa for all of his support, love and kindness he showed to Angel and his family and the doctors and staff at Premier Medical associates.

Visitation is Monday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary prayed at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Wasco. Interment to follow at Wasco Memorial Park.
