Shafter Police arrest suspect in Wasco

Shafter police arrested a man in Wasco on suspicion of two crimes that occurred in Shafter, beginning on last Friday.

Anthony Chavez, 25, was arrested at the Wasco Motel on Highway 46 on Sunday when officers with the Shafter Police Department received information that Chavez was staying there. Chavez was arrested without incident.

It is alleged that Chavez assaulted and robbed his ex-girlfriend and was armed with a handgun on Friday. Charges include domestic violence and armed robbery.

The second case Chavez was wanted for took place on Saturday. Chavez entered a residence and allegedly stole the victim’s vehicle.

After receiving information leading them to the Wasco Motel, the SPD conducted surveillance and obtained a warrant for his arrest, as well as a search warrant. Chavez was arrested at the motel on charges that included domestic violence and armed robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
