Wasco Woman's Club holds auction

The Wasco Woman's Club was bustling with energy as members contributed items to be auctioned off last week.

The Nov. 12 auction at the club was a small fundraiser to help supplement the cost of the club's upcoming Christmas party for high school special education students.

Before lunch was served, the women began bidding for some of the smaller items.

Following the meal, bidding took an upturn as more people began competing for the items they wanted.

The items for sale included a gift pack of Christmas paper plates and a Campbell's Soup cookie jar filled with tomato soup cookies. "The cookies are really good," baker Jill Drescher told the attendees. "You don't really taste the soup in them."

One of the members made an large platter of empanadas that had everyone drooling. Pickled okra, cookies, banana nut bread, homemade toffee, apricot bread and jams were also auctioned off. Member Sally Montgomery outbid on several items that she was able to take home with her.

There were laughs as the women bid on popular items. The auctioneer, President Marlene Swan, increased the last bid by a few dollars in hopes of increasing the sale.
