A night to celebrate

Fireworks light up sky for the Fourth

Colors exploded above the sky at Barker Park last week during the Fourth Annual Fireworks Show sponsored by the Orange Heart Foundation.

The finale of the July 3 show was a brilliant display of bright white fireworks, one right on top of the other. It went on for three to four minutes as attendees cheered, clapped and whistled.

Barker Park began filling up for the event in the late afternoon as the different booths were being set up.

The Orange Heart Foundation had DJ David Armendariz, Jr. entertain with popular music. Several booths were lined up on Poplar, where OutKast Catering provided several meal options, a funnel cake booth, Sno Cone booth and a couple of booths filled with colorful goodies.

The annual Fourth of July fireworks show was changed to July 3 this year to make the event more cost effective -- putting on a fireworks show on July 3 costs less than holding it on July 4

A lot of positive comments came from the onlookers.

"The finale was spectacular," Bakersfield resident attendee Denise Maytubby said. "I loved the different choices in food offered by the booths."

This was Maytubby's second year attending the Wasco fireworks show and she, along with other attendees, was heard commenting on how much fun it was.

The show started out with single, colorful fireworks and ended with the grand finale, which was a nonstop array of white continuous fireworks that added extra loud booms at the conclusion of the show.

In addition to the fireworks show, the park pool was to the public for anyone who wanted to swim that evening.

SAL volunteers helped the Orange Heart Foundation to do what was needed. They assisted in the Orange Heart booth and carried plates of food and beverages to seated patrons.
