Media Arts Instructor/Wasco High School Teacher of the Year Danny Eusebio.

Wasco High School Media Arts instructor Danny Eusebio has over 85,000 followers on YouTube – and now he's WHS's Teacher of the Year.

He was born and raised in Delano and attended Delano High. He earned his bachelors degree at he University of California, Irvine,in engineering; however, because he graduated from college during the recession (2008-2010), he was unable to find a job in the aerospace industry.

Eusebio obtained his credential in arts, media and entertainment at the University of San Diego's extension in Los Angeles. but when he realized the aerospace industry was not going to be hiring, he returned to the Central Valley.

After returning with his credential in hand, he worked at Palm Avenue Elementary School as the school's computer technician and following that, he became the school's librarian.

When the media, arts instructor position came up, he applied for it.

"I always had a knack for teaching," Eusebio said. "I did a lot of high school outreach programs."

His favorite part about teaching is watching his students find their own creativity, while his least favorite aspect of teaching is grading.

"I feel I can observe a student and know whether or not he/she has achieved creativity without giving a grade to it," he said.

Eusebio was flattered when a year ago, Sony invited him to attend a national conference.

"This past year I was chosen to fly to New York to try out a new camera, Sony A-9," he said. "It's great for events, shoots, videos and action pictures."

A self-proclaimed introvert, Eusebio says he did participate on his school's academic decathlon team.

"I never thought I'd be in this position at all," he said." Had the market been different, who knows where I would be?"

He also stated that he feels fortunate to be working for the Wasco Union High School District. He loves working in his passion every day, which is visual and digital media.

One piece of advice Eusebio gives to his seniors is to make sure the college they choose is a good fit for them.
