WHS students can earn college degree

Wasco High School students can earn a college degree before they graduate through the Wonderful Agriculture Career Prep and Bakersfield College.

The program, sponsored by the Wonderful Company, offers an associate of science degree in Ag Business or Ag Mechanics from Bakersfield College. It includes 60 units of college coursework (20 college classes) and guaranteed enrollment in all college classes.

Students receive a free Chromebook for all four years, college tutors to support all courses, college visitation trips all four years to University of California at Davis, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Fresno State University.

Also included is job shadowing experience for sophomore and junior years, ACT test prep training junior year, college application workshops and camps for eligible WACP students, up to $18,000 in scholarships over three years for WACP students with a 3.0 GPA

Support classes are embedded in the high school schedule, with help to build reading and math skills during the school day, and participants are involved with the school’s FFA program.

A post-graduation benefit is a guaranteed job with Wonderful, making a minimum of $35,000 per year when the program is completed.
