Getting ready for VFW breakfast

The VFW held its monthly meeting on Jan. 3 and talk quickly turned to its upcoming pancake breakfast to be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 8 to 11 a. m. at the VFW Hall on E Street.

Post Commander Danny Rueda asked for volunteers from Walmart to help with the breakfast and was advised that for every 20 volunteer hours Walmart employees volunteer for the VFW, Walmart will give the VFW $500. He was to meet with Walmart to deal with details.

Information on the pancake breakfast is available from Danny Rueda at 661-333-2113.

Rueda announced that Josh Medrano and Victoria Rueda both received a $250 scholarship from the proceeds of the last VFW car show held at the Oct. 13 Wasco Festival.

Former Councilmember Cheryl Wegman was recognized for her $500 donation toward a new ceremonial bugle. Member Steve Davis is continuing to look for a brass bugle to order for the VFW Memorial Day ceremony.

Rueda acknowledged veteran Katie Janerson and welcomed her to her first VFW meeting.

The renting of the flags for the on-going fundraiser was discussed, and reservations for a flag will be ongoing throughout the year.
