  • 2nd UPDATE: Wasco takes Taft, 28-12

Matthew Robledo, For the Wasco Tribune|Updated Oct 29, 2019

The Wasco Tigers hosted their last home game of the season last Friday night against Taft, and they left the field a winner. Taft was the first to receive, and they were driving down the field. They were in the red zone before the ball was coughed up and recovered by Joel Vargas. But the Tigers couldn’t capitalize. This brought the game to the second quarter with the game still scoreless. The next drive for Taft also stalled, and the Tigers were back with the ball. They d...

A former resident, Sam (Samiel) Edmonds, offers this picture of some men he played music with in the '50s, hoping that someone may recognize them. • For senior couple, so close, yet so far

    Toni DeRosa, Wasco Tribune|Updated Oct 24, 2019

When 72-year-old Serafin Ybarra, Jr. spotted 61-year-old Maria R. Villegas at St. John's Catholic Church during Mass one Sunday, he knew he had to meet her. This is not a story of young love, but a story of mature love between two widowed adults who both had been single for many years. Ybarra lost his wife to brain cancer eight years ago when he was 64, and Villegas lost her husband in a car accident 32 years ago. The first time Ybarra asked Villegas out for coffee, she had to...

  • A big win for the Tigers, 28-0

Matthew Robledo, For the Wasco Tribune|Updated Oct 24, 2019

The Wasco Tigers came out on Friday night in Arvin looking for a bounce back victory. Arvin was first with the ball and turned it into a drive – but that ended inside the 10-yard line with a fumble recovered by Wasco defense. Both teams then began to take turns with the ball trying to be the first to strike. Until the Tigers moved down the field and Rodrick Scott punched it in. After another stop by the defense for the Tigers, the game went into halftime with a score of 7...

  • Job Fest draws a crowd

    Toni DeRosa, Wasco Tribune|Updated Oct 24, 2019

An employment application is your first impression. "Spelling, grammar and punctuation errors are the first thing potential employers notice when someone submit an application for a position," said Miguel Salazar, social service supervisor of the Kern County Department of Human Services. They met on the Bears' field, but the Tigers played the field as if they owned it. Before the game began, the announcer asked that all attendees currently serving in the military or who had served in the military stand up and be recognized for their patriotism. In addition, the bleachers on both sides of the field weren't equally...
