    The Wasco Union Elementary School District will continue distance learning for its general education students for the second quarter, Superintendent Kelly Richers announced via letter to parents. Beginning in October and after plans are approved, on-site instruction will begin only for certain at-risk students, including selected special education, homeless and EL students.     Come into the Wasco Animal shelter and meet Sammie. Sammie came in as a stray along with Julie; she is not microchipped nor spayed. She is approximately a 1-year-old, short-coat female, Belgian Malinois mix. She is great with staff and other dogs. Sammie has been tested with large and small breeds.     One of Shafter’s most popular events, Minter Field’s annual Wings 'N' Wheels, which was scheduled for November, has been canceled. Organizers cited the health risks associated with the pandemic when they announced the news.
