  • Pastor's Corner - Feb. 28, 2019

Jim Neal, First Southern Baptist Church|Updated Mar 8, 2019

JIM NEAL “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.” --Abraham Lincoln Doesn’t it seem as you look around, read the newspaper or listen to or watch the daily news that one of the key concepts missing in all of humanness is the quality of wisdom? A very old dictionary that I have in my position, actually the 1953 College Edition of Webster’s New World, defines wisdom in this way: “the quality of being wise; the power of judging rightly and following the soundest course of action,...

  • Recycling Blues

    American Refuse|Updated Mar 1, 2019

It was this time last year that America got a huge wakeup call with our “recycling.” China implemented their “national sword” -- otherwise known as the “China Ban” where they completely shut down accepting all U.S. recycling materials for an entire month. A year later, some may ask where we are now. The tone has been set from last year. After the month-long shut down, things very slowly started to pick back up, but with stricter enforcement on contamination. For what used to be acceptable to send a recycling load...

  • A chance to love again

    Jamie Stewart, Wasco Tribune|Updated Mar 1, 2019

I wrote an column last month that was really tough for me. We had lost our dog TJ, leaving a big hole in my heart that I didn't think would ever get filled again. When we first lost him, I didn't even want to think about getting another dog. People would tell me that getting another dog would be the best thing for me. I couldn't imagine ever having to go through that again. It hurt so much that I couldn't think about it. I would look around the house, or even do small things l...

  • Woman's Club has Bunko day

    Toni DeRosa, Wasco Tribune|Updated Mar 1, 2019

Twenty-four women got together in Wasco last week to play 18 games of Bunko, two hours of fun and games as they kept score and passed around the bunko trinket. Everything in bunko is up to the roll of the dice. There are six games in each set, and there were three sets played during the afternoon. Historically, Bunco is considered a parlor game (played indoors or in the parlor), and is usually played with 12 or more players divided into groups of four, trying to score points...

Lila is a female shepherd/bully mix and is 2-3 years old. She weighs almost 45 pounds. She is friendly and loves belly rubs. Initially, Lila can be shy. Lila was picked up for biting an elderly man on the leg and was owner-surrendered along with other dogs on the owner's property (the other dogs were rescued). When she came in she was full of milk, which has since dried up. She has had no issues with anyone at the shelter and tested well with a male large-breed dog. She has...

  • ESports competition comes to Wasco

    Toni DeRosa, Wasco Tribune|Updated Feb 28, 2019

Wasco's Pizza Factory was taken over by an ESports invasion Saturday, when over 30 people came in prepared to play the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate competition. Each player selects a video game character to play. Three games equal one set, and to win a set means a person needs to win two out of three games. Anyone with an interest in video games was able to enter, and most of the visitors to the restaurant signed up to compete and not just play the game. The competition is...
