    Nicolas was born in Santa Barbara, Jalisco, Mexico on Dec. 23, 1937, to parents Anacleto Anaya and Natividad Jimenez Cuevas. Nicolas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a hard worker and provider for his family. Nicolas was a giving person with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.     The City Council unanimously approved a resolution to discontinue the current Dial-a-Ride general fare ticket pass. After reviewing a staff report at the council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 18, staff recommended instead of terminating the Dial-a-Ride completely, it was recommended that increasing the price of the Dial-a-Ride fare pass and decreasing the number of rides per pass would reduce the losses the city has been experiencing.     CalTrans and the Kern Council of Governments are creating a countywide rural area program which will enable the homeless to earn a wage by cleaning up litter on state highways in Kern County such as Highways 43.     Wasco High FFA students discovered several of their animals had been attacked by dogs last month. In the first attack, on Jan. 16, an adult male goat was killed. The next attack, on Feb. 7, left another goat and two young female sheep injured. One sheep died later; the other continues to recover. On Feb. 10, four pregnant female goats were attacked and one was killed. The total loss is approximately $2,000, but is dependent upon whether the pregnant goats lose their babies....

    To Wasco High alumni, the low score didn't matter -- it was the win that counted in the traditional Valentine's Day donkey basketball game. The alumni beat the FFA basketball team, 18-9. Though the FFA team beat the alumni last year, this year was more than payback as the alumni team dunked twice as many baskets.
